How to Get Podcast Sponsors: What the Top 200 Shows Do

By Ryan Doyle, founder of Book a Sponsor ·

Get podcast sponsors two ways: join an ad network or marketplace that sells ads into your episodes, and pitch brands that already sponsor shows like yours, with a vanity link or code they can count. Of the 197 top-200 US podcasts we could read, 31% named sponsors in their last 10 episodes' notes, and Shopify sponsored the most shows (read 2 October 2026).

We read the show notes of 1,898 recent episodes from Apple Podcasts' US top 200 chart to see who sponsors the biggest shows and how they sell the ads. The method and its limits are at the end of the page.

How many top podcasts sell ads?

About a third name their sponsors, and two thirds sit on an ad-insertion platform. 62 of 197 shows (31%) named at least one sponsor brand with its link or promo code. 130 (66%) carried an ad platform's privacy or "ad choices" notice, which hosting platforms add to every episode; it shows the show sits on an ad-capable host, but not that ads ran. Together, 145 shows (74%) had one sign or both, and for 83 of them the notice was the only sign.

Which brands sponsor the most podcasts?

Shopify sponsored the most top shows, 14 of them, followed by Quince on 12. A show that named sponsors listed a median 5.5 different brands across its last 10 episodes, and we counted 225 sponsor brands in all, 37 of them on 3 or more shows.

These brands buy podcast ads at scale today, so they are the first rows of a pitch list. The better rows are the brands in your own genre: open the show notes of five shows like yours and copy their sponsor lists. That is the same method this study used, on your niche.

Do podcast sponsors also buy newsletter ads?

Yes, often. 16 of the 37 brands named on 3 or more top shows (43%) also have a newsletter ad on record in Book a Sponsor's data (2 October 2026). On Book a Sponsor's public profiles, which count more loosely, Shopify has been seen sponsoring 16 newsletters, BetterHelp 16 and Quince 13. A brand that pays for podcast reads already has a budget for creator audiences, so a podcast that also sends a newsletter can pitch both.

If you run a newsletter, Book a Sponsor finds the brands already sponsoring newsletters in your niche and pitches them for you. It covers newsletters only, not podcasts.

Which podcast genres sell the most ads?

Comedy shows name their sponsors most often: 11 of 17. True crime shows almost all sit on ad platforms (28 of 32 had a sign) but only 4 named a sponsor in the notes, likely because most of their ads are inserted automatically and not listed.

The samples are small, so treat each genre row as a rough direction.

Which ad networks sell podcast ads?

AdsWizz and Spotify's Megaphone host the most top shows, 50 and 49 of 197, judging by the notices in their show notes.

These mostly serve large networks. A smaller show usually starts with its host's ad program or a marketplace. Libsyn Ads requires at least 20,000 downloads per episode and splits ad revenue 70/30, with the podcaster keeping 70% (Libsyn Ads, read 2 October 2026). Below that size, MediaPact, Passionfroot and Sponsorships.ai also list podcasts; the sponsorship platforms comparison has their published fees, read 29 to 30 September 2026.

How do you pitch a brand to sponsor your podcast?

Pitch a read with a vanity link or code, the format the 62 named-sponsor shows list. Most of them gave each brand a link such as brand.com/showname or a promo code with the show's name, so the brand can count sales from the read.

  1. Build the list. Start with brands from the table above that fit your audience, then add the sponsors of five shows in your genre.
  2. Find the buyer. Look for a partnerships, podcast or influencer marketing lead at the brand. At a small brand, write to the founder.
  3. Send a short pitch. Downloads per episode in the first 30 days, who listens, one proposed read (60 seconds, mid-roll) and a price. The sponsorship email templates are written for this.
  4. Attach a one-page media kit with your download numbers and past sponsors. The media kit guide has a podcast example.
  5. Follow up once or twice in the same thread, about a week apart. See sponsorship follow-up emails.

How much do podcast sponsors pay?

Brands pay about $15 to $40 per 1,000 downloads, counted over an episode's first 30 days. Libsyn Ads lists host-read ads at $24 to $26 per 1,000 downloads for a 60-second spot and $18 to $22 for 30 seconds (Libsyn Ads' podcast advertising guide, read 2 October 2026). Acast puts host-read sponsorships at $25 to $40 per 1,000 listens and pre-recorded ads at $15 to $30 (Acast's podcast advertising cost guide, read 2 October 2026).

For example, a show with 5,000 downloads per episode at $25 per 1,000 would charge 5,000 ÷ 1,000 × $25 = $125 for one 60-second read. Sold through Libsyn Ads' 70/30 split, the show would keep $125 × 70% = $87.50. Those round numbers are hypothetical. The sponsorship pricing guide covers every format, and sponsorship packages shows how to sell several reads as tiers.

Podcast sponsor questions

How do I get sponsors for my podcast?

Two ways. Join an ad network or marketplace that sells ads into your episodes, and pitch brands that already sponsor shows like yours, with a vanity link or code they can count. Of the 197 top-200 US podcasts we read on 2 October 2026, 62 (31%) named sponsors in their show notes.

Which companies sponsor podcasts?

Shopify appeared in the show notes of 14 top-200 US podcasts on 2 October 2026, Quince in 12, and AG1 and Ethos in 8 each. We counted 225 sponsor brands, 37 of them on 3 or more shows.

How many downloads do you need to get a podcast sponsor?

None for a direct deal: a brand can buy a read on any show. Ad networks set their own minimums. Libsyn Ads, for example, requires at least 20,000 downloads per episode, as of 2 October 2026.

How much do podcast sponsors pay?

About $15 to $40 per 1,000 downloads, depending on the ad. Libsyn Ads lists host-read ads at $24 to $26 per 1,000 for 60 seconds and $18 to $22 for 30 seconds, and Acast puts host-read sponsorships at $25 to $40 (both read 2 October 2026). At $25, a show with 5,000 downloads per episode would charge $125 for one 60-second read.

Why do podcast show notes list sponsor links and codes?

So the brand can count what the read sold. Most of the 62 shows that named sponsors gave each brand a vanity link such as brand.com/showname or a promo code with the show's name, which the brand checks before it renews.

How this study was done

On 2 October 2026 we took Apple Podcasts' US top 200 chart, looked up each show's public RSS feed and read the show notes of its latest 10 episodes: 197 shows and 1,898 episodes (three shows had no readable feed). A show counts as naming a sponsor when its notes link a commercial site in a sponsor line: "sponsored by", "brought to you by", a promo code, a vanity offer link such as brand.com/showname, or a list under a "Sponsors" heading. Platforms, publishers, ad tech, nonprofits, the show's own site and host, guest and book sites were left out, the last checked by hand. The ad platform notice is the privacy or "ad choices" line that AdsWizz, Megaphone, Omny Studio, ART19 or Acast add to notes.

Limits: show notes miss many ads. A hand check removed lines that promoted the host's own products, books or events, and a few shows that name a sponsor without a link are still missed, so treat the counts as approximate. The chart ranks popularity on one day, so these are the biggest shows. The newsletter check counts a brand when Book a Sponsor's data holds at least one newsletter ad with a tracking link or read from an issue or sponsor page. Each update of this study will carry its own date.
